Prepare Your Landscape For Spring In Omaha

Prepare Your Landscape For Spring In Omaha

If you’re one of the many people in Omaha who marked the Spring Equinox on your calendar, then you’re undoubtedly looking forward to Spring. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean we have to dwell on it! Instead, let’s fantasize about the warm weather to come, and how we can best prepare our landscapes for it.

Here are some Sun Valley Landscaping-approved tips to ensure you start Spring off on the right foot!

Spring Scheduling

Whether you’re a recurring client or someone looking for a new landscape contractor, it’s never too early to get your work on the schedule at Sun Valley Landscaping. We like to get a head start on planning our routes for the spring schedule because they fill up fast! Renew your landscape maintenance contracts as soon as possible so that we can get started on your property!

If you need help figuring out where to get started, take a look at our maintenance programs to help you choose what’s suitable for your yard and lifestyle.

First Lawn & Landscape Spring Clean-Up

A landscape spring cleanup is the best way to jumpstart your landscape for the season.

First, we remove winter debris and weeds from your landscape beds. We cut back ornamental grasses and perennials to encourage even growth and beautiful blooms in the upcoming season. We can even set out your patio furniture if you give us a heads-up on that! Of course, everything will be blown off and your landscape beds will be looking fabulous when we leave.

As far as timing, like most things in our business, our spring clean-ups are weather dependent. This means that if the warm weather cooperates with us we can start in early March!

As far as your lawn goes, when Spring has sprung, there’s nothing like the smell of fresh-cut grass and the sight of new mulch! As part of our lawn spring clean-up, we include the first initial mowing of the season to bring your grass back to life after the winter season. We even re-establish crisp edges near hard surfaces that will be maintained throughout the year.

Proper mulch coverage is essential to control weeds, retain moisture, and provide that clean uniform look throughout the year. This time of year, we top dress with a 1” layer of premium mulch and apply a balancing fertilizer to ornamental shrubs and perennials.

Feeling ambitious? Did you know that you can order your mulch and get it delivered to your home from our Sun Valley Supply Yard online store? We’re happy to supply the product and even have a nifty calculator on our site so you can determine with ease how much mulch to order.

Eliminate Weeds With Pre-Emergents

A mandatory first step when preparing your landscape this spring is to knock back weeds with pre-emergent applications. This helps to suppress weeds like crabgrass from emerging and becoming a problem throughout the season. A second round of pre-emergents is applied later in the season, but if you want your landscape beds (and turf) to be as weed-free as possible we recommend doing both rounds!

Pre-emergents should be applied before the soil temperature reaches around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. In Omaha, this means we could be out for service as late as March.

This service is included with your initial spring bed and landscape cleanup since we know this is a mandatory service to keep your property looking its best!

Bring Your Landscape Designs To Life

If you’re ready to make some changes to your landscape this year, this is a perfect time to start thinking about some of the landscape trends we’ve been seeing in the Omaha area for 2023.

Native plantings, the use of artificial turf, and even a rise in outdoor kitchens and furnished patio spaces have been on the rise. Don’t wait until summer to get started. The Sun Valley Landscaping team is here to help you design the landscape of your dreams!
