Holiday Lights

lights-300x200Here at Omaha Friendly we understand that everyone enjoys showcasing their holiday spirit, however not everyone has the time to install Christmas lights.  Others just do not enjoy the hassle of climbing around on the roof.  Let us help make your life easier by installing Christmas lights this season for you!  Although we do not have Christmas lights of our own, we would be happy to pick some up for you or install the lights you already own.

Christmas Lights Tips

  • You cannot be too safe!  We recommend having at least 1 person assist you when hanging Christmas lights because you will be going up and down the ladder a few times.  Having someone there allows 1 person to stabilize the ladder while the other person climbs up on the roof.  If you do not have assistance, double-check the ladder’s stability every timebefore climbing.  Do not get complacent because that is when accidents occur; remember that safety is always first.
  • Check to see which kind of bulb you are using.  Smaller bulbs (1.5-2 Volts) are cooler burning and more energy efficient.  However, it is best to buy them on strings of 50 (not 100 or 200) because if 1 bulb malfunctions the entire string might stop working and the problem is easier to diagnose with fewer bulbs.
  • The large bulbs burn hotter and can be a fire hazard.  The positive side is that if 1 of the large bulbs breaks the entire string can still work.
  • Double check all of your bulbs before hanging them.  First you want to unstring the entire rope and do a visual inspection for broken bulbs.  If you cannot find any broken bulbs or exposed wires then plug lights in and make sure that all lights are functioning properly.  If everything is working carefully take the bulbs outside without tangling the rope.
  • Save energy by plugging the lights into a switch controlled outlet.  This prevents you from having to go outside and unplug the lights every night.  If no switch controlled outlet is available, plug into a timer set to turn on at dusk and off late at night.
  • Do not wait until mid-December to hang your lights.  Although the timing appears to be appropriate, keep in mind it will likely be colder in mid-December than in mid to late November.  Hang the lights while it is still relatively warm and just wait until December to turn them on.Here at Omaha Friendly we understand that everyone enjoys showcasing their holiday spirit, however not everyone has the time to install Christmas lights.  Others just do not enjoy the hassle of climbing around on the roof.  Let us help make your life easier by installing Christmas lights this season for you!  Although we do not have Christmas lights of our own, we would be happy to pick some up for you or install the lights you already own.
